Itinerary
Day 1: Pangkalan Bun - Kumai Port - Tanjung Harapan
Arrive on the enchanting island of Borneo, known as Kalimantan to the Indonesians, at Pangkalan Bun. Your guide eagerly awaits your airport arrival, and a 15-20-minute car journey takes us to Kumai port, marking the starting point of our grand adventure.
Step aboard our traditional wooden klotok boat, where the crew and guide ensure everything is ready for our cruise along the famous Sekonyer River. For those with early flights (before 11.30 AM), reaching the Tanjung Harapan rehabilitation center by 3 o'clock in the afternoon allows you to witness the park rangers feeding the orangutans, offering your initial intimate encounters with these remarkable creatures.
Tanjung Harapan, translating to Cape of Hope, serves as our first camp surrounded by wetlands, where the afternoon hours are accompanied by more mosquitoes; remember to pack adequate mosquito repellent. Here, you can also participate in reforestation, contributing as a volunteer to plant a tree, leaving your conservation mark on the journey.
After exploring the Rangers Camp, we continue upstream, resting on the boat while we scour the surroundings of the Sekonyer River for wildlife. The afternoon presents opportunities to spot proboscis monkeys, monkeys in treetops, and glimpses of crocodiles and lizards along the river's edges. As the sun sets, the boat anchors on the riverbank for the night. Tonight, a jungle walk awaits, in search of Night Animals like Snakes, Tarantulas, and, if fortune smiles, luminescent mushrooms or Tarsiers.

Day 2: Tanjung Harapan Village - Proboscis Tour - Camp Leakey
Following a delightful breakfast, we embark on a visit to Tanjung Harapan Village, a community nestled within the national park. Observe local activities as you absorb the authentic atmosphere. Resume our klotok journey along the Seikonyer River, enveloped by lush riverside vegetation, Nipa Palm, Pandanus, and diverse trees. Witness a plethora of wildlife, including birds, macaques, proboscis monkeys, and orangutans.
As we arrive at Camp Leakey, an orangutan research and rehabilitation center, the legacy of Birutte Galdikas comes alive. Established in 1971, it has facilitated the return of over 200 orangutans to the wild. Since 1995, new introductions are banned, allowing orangutans to adapt to freedom. Camp Leakey serves as a hub for studying orangutan behavior.
Utilize your guide's expertise to delve into the jungle and spot orangutans and other creatures. At 2 PM, witness the Orangutans' feeding and explore the small museum curated by Dr. Birute Galdikas.
