Itinerary
Day 1: Balikpapan - Samboja Lestari Reserve - Black River
Touching down at Balikpapan airport, you'll receive a warm welcome that marks the beginning of your journey. We'll swiftly transport you to Samboja Park, a scenic drive offering a preview of the lush rainforest. After settling in at the comfortable Samboja Lodge, you'll ascend a tower that grants a panoramic view of the captivating Samboja area.
This region serves as a sanctuary for orangutans, a conservation endeavor that has been in progress since 1992 in Borneo. Samboja Lodge takes pride in being home to approximately 210 orangutans, released onto six islands encircling the lodge. In the afternoon, engage in an enlightening program that includes visiting the orangutan islands and witnessing the rehabilitation efforts for sun bears.
Embark on a gentle trek through the surrounding area before heading to the scenic Black River. Here, you'll set out on a canoe adventure, an expedition that brings you up close with river life, captivating proboscis monkeys, and a vibrant array of bird species. It's an experience that forges a deep connection with nature, leaving an indelible mark on your memory. Savor a picnic lunch during your day tour, followed by a delightful dinner at the lodge.

Day 2: Samboja Lestari - Tenggarong - Mahakam River
Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge, and as the scheduled time approaches, our guide will be there to greet you. It's now time to set off on the road trip to Tenggarong, the gateway to your upcoming houseboat adventure. The journey by road will take approximately 3 hours.
You can anticipate elegant lunches and dinners served aboard the boat, providing an opportunity to meet the dedicated crew who will be your companions on this remarkable journey. Prepare to unwind and fully engage in this exciting adventure.

Day 3: Muara Muntai - Mancong - Tanjung Isuy - Muara Pahu
The day commences with a brief visit to Muara Muntai Wooden Village. Following this, embark on a captivating journey across Jempang Lake via motor canoe, headed for Mancong. Along this scenic cruise, you'll be entranced by the lush Rainforest and the vibrant wildlife along Ohong Creek, including playful monkeys and enchanting birds.
Upon your arrival in Mancong, you'll be greeted by the Dayak Benuaq, one of East Kalimantan's oldest Dayak tribes, who will welcome you with a traditional ceremony. In the late afternoon, another motor canoe ride will take you to Tanjung Isuy for further sightseeing. Return to the houseboat for dinner and enjoy an overnight stay as it continues its cruise to Muara Pahu.

Day 4: Muara Pahu - Kedang Pahu River - Mount Bayan - Terbisak - Downstream
Your arrival at Muara Pahu marks the beginning of an upstream journey along the Kedang Pahu River, a captivating canoe ride lasting over an hour. You'll reach Mount Bayan, home to Terbisak Village, renowned for its Dayak Benuaq tribe's Longhouse. This unique community of approximately 100 residents continues to thrive in their communal house, preserving age-old traditions of dry rice cultivation and hunting.
Continuing downstream by canoe, the riverbank reveals exotic nature and a rich tapestry of wildlife, from otters and leaf monkeys to the endangered proboscis monkeys and a diverse bird population. Your adventure then leads to the delta of the Belowan River, a land of blackwater peat swamp forests. Keep a keen eye out for freshwater dolphins in the Kedang Pahu and Bolowan Rivers. Return to your houseboat for an upstream cruise to Melak.

Day 5: Tenggarong - Balikpapan
Upon reaching Tenggarong, a visit to the former palace of Sultan Kutai Kertanegara awaits. Following your visit, the houseboat will cruise downstream to Samarinda.
Enjoy lunch on board, and then by car, we'll transfer you to Balikpapan airport for your onward flight to your next destination. Sampai Jumpa!
